1402071 2015-07-09 01:13:00 Thanks just did the Crystal Disk check, yellow, C6 Uncorrectable Sector Count. So what does that mean?

The noise just seems to be the hdd trying to access info when it can't perhaps?

BTW, more crashes today, couldn't repair itself, got it going again by turning off and unplugging and pressing the start key, then plugging in and rebooting.

1402072 2015-07-09 01:22:00 HDD failing for sure. Pretty odd that PB didn't pick that up. Sounds bad enough that a diag would have shown it. Do you know if they actually ran a proper hard drive diagnostic on the PC when they had it?

If your data is important I would back it up yesterday.

1402073 2015-07-09 01:25:00 Yes, backing files up daily as I use them. Not sure what tests they did, they had quite a few programs and results on screen when I picked it up. I will give them a call and try to get it back to them for disk replacement later today or tomorrow. Danger (287)
1402074 2015-07-09 01:26:00 Cool. If it ends up not being a warranty thing, see if you can spring for a SSD, or even a hybrid drive - you'd notice a nice bump in speed. wratterus (105)
1402075 2015-07-09 01:33:00 Called PBtech, going to take PC in tomorrow and they will run some tests but said they will probably replace the hdd at a discount for the part, no other charges.

Thanks for all input and assistance everybody, least now I have some evidence that there is a problem with the hdd as I first suspected.

1402076 2015-07-09 01:34:00 I asked about SSD last week and they said it was an external disc? Confused me a bit that one. Will ask about a hybrid tomorrow. Danger (287)
1402077 2015-07-09 02:14:00 Sweet.

One of these, depending on the storage you require and whether it's a 2.5" or 3.5" drive in there.

If they are giving you a discount on the part they shouldn't mind which part you want to put in there - it would just cost you a little more.

1402078 2015-07-09 04:36:00 I've had an HP Pavilion 23 for about 18 months now and for the last 6 months (just out of warranty period)

The warranty period is just a date on the manufacturer or builder's wish list.

The Consumer Guarantees Act supersedes anything in the manufacturers warranty, so take it back to where you bought it and get them to fix or replace.

There's nobody tougher than a Car Dealer, but I've had a car replaced completely well outside their "warranty period."

As for computers, I had new computer built for me after nearly two years because of repetitive failures. If you don't ask, you won't get, so take it back and ask for repair or replacement.

If they balk, tell them they'll be up for compensation as well if they don't play ball.

I just got a full refund for my wife from a hairdresser who didn't listen to a request to keep her ears dry, which led to medical bills, and the hair colour they put in faded inside of a week.

No argument, no hassle, just tell the facts, don't bullshIt, and help them by demonstrating the problem or providing readable notes as to what is going wrong.

And if it turns out to be your fault, be polite and gracious in your apology.

Cheers

1402079 2015-07-09 06:03:00 To hijack the thread-- Sorry Billy, but you should expect this :D

I just got a full refund for my wife Been looking for the warranty sticker on SWMBO for years, :D how did you manage this ?

On topic --
just did the Crystal Disk check, yellow, C6 Uncorrectable Sector Count. So what does that mean? As wratterus posted-- HDD is failing.

PBTech "should" have picked that up -- Obviously they didn't check the HDD to well. ;) Personally consistent crashes or corruption thats the first thing I always check on customers computers.

1402080 2015-07-11 02:08:00 Getting frustrated, PBtech insisting on running more tests on hdd, still can't find any errors (despite me showing them the results on Crystal Disk yesterday and saying they would clone and replace hdd for me). :( Danger (287)
