1391424 2015-01-04 23:40:00 7 feels so awkward now. Once you actually get over the difference 8.1 is far better. Not just in speed, but lots of other deeper actions as well. Mind you the majority of people only use a fraction of any OS.

Why dont you simply not use it and use 8.1 like W7 then theres no need to use it ?

On ALL the 8.1 PC's here the tiled screen is only assessed when wanted, mine has shortcuts to some programs instead of having a desktop full of shortcuts.
SWMBO is on W8.1, the ONLY time the tiled screen is even accessed is when turning it off OR going to the windows store because its set up to work how she likes it. Guess if someone doesn't have the knowledge to set things up, theres no help then ;)

MANY people WILL STILL have problems with W10 as well -- Why? - simple they wont know how the functions work. Any one can put a few shortcuts on the desktop, but use many of the new features - they will again be lost and complain.

Windows 7 Home is now gone end of life anyway, so what ever stock is in the shops is all there will be, once its sold there is no more.

Many think W10 will be the same as W7 -- Not going to happen, there's a LOT of changes and some really useful features. The Tiled menu will still be available to those who want to use it, and the tiles will still be in the start menu.

Its a bit like being used to using one OS, lets say Windows, then changing to Linux or Apple OS -- things are different and a learning curve is required.

Seen it countless times someone gets told "windows 8.1 cant do this that etc" or the best one -- Many think you have to sign into windows 8 with a email address -- Wanna bet, you can set it so it goes straight onto the desktop ;)

1391426 2015-01-05 01:06:00 Use both here. Win7 on 1 desktop(would change it, but the flatmate doesn't want Win8, so end of story :p) Win8 on the other 2 desktops.

Only put Win8 on one of the others, since I put a TPM module in it, which needs either Win8 Pro or Win7 Ultimate/Ent for bitlocker. Only thing I used Win7 for before, was for XP mode. Which I dont really need now

Thanks, wainuitech, I knew what you were saying and also knew it isn't in your nature to come across as, well, shall I say a nerd :nerd: I had my tongue in my cheek when I posted. I know you are so right, how I wish I had your knowledge. There are so many people who really do feel lost when they have to adapt to using something where they feel so out of their depth. That's where you enter the picture. I am old enough to remember going to a local night class to learn how to use word and works. Several of the students only lasted a couple of classes and dropped out, even though they held very important jobs. A lot were males who struggled with keyboard skills and worked where Madam Secretary always took care of 'that sort of thing'. Hopefully, no one under 40 would have that problem now.
I will add that the air was pretty blue here when I had a new computer, new smart phone, new camera and a new tablet all within a couple of months.

1391428 2015-01-05 02:42:00 Just taken a order for a new PC, they questioned about installing windows 8.1 (never used it) as their daughter said it would be to hard.
Went out to the car and got my laptop, spent less than 5 minutes showing them "what was so hard" as their daughter had advised , and --- well lets just say I almost didn't get the laptop back, they gave me a blank the stare :illogical and said is that all it is ? Said I'd give them a better intro when I bring back the PC.

off topic (kind of) after going out to a show a while back she just talks in her "work Voice" nice and polite, fixes the problem and says just F.O.C.U.S :D I wont say what it stands for ( family show here) but look it up and play the music, search for F.O.C.U.S jenny-talia ( its R rated ;) )
