1390989 2014-12-27 19:54:00 Someone has to take these people - Briscoes especially, for their prepetual 20-80% off to court for false advertising.

We are living in an oligopoly, they have been ripping us off since forever and we need a change.

Ehh? Explain this one to me please ;)

Sorry Cato but can't see how they are ripping us off. We can shop elsewhere.

The Commerce Commission did investigate Briscoes and as a result Briscoes had to slightly change their advertising. What you see is legitimate. Their sales only apply to certain products with the occasional store-wide discount. Exactly the same as Farmers, Hallensteins, Repco etc.

If you want to buy some type of homeware then IMHO they are the shop to go to for quality and a reasonable price.

The 20-80% discount is real. Been in there several times with SWMBO, and there are some things discounted right down (generally a lot of items people will not usually buy) but there are plenty of other items that range from 20-30% discounted.

OFTEN its in the small print that not all items are discounted, but no one ever reads that even though its there.

Murphy's law applies that what ever you want will not be discounted.

1390992 2014-12-29 18:32:00 They all do it.......HN, NL, who-ever.
This is why things like Pricespy are handy - some shop may well be discounting, but that doesn't mean they have it the cheapest.

I bought a cast iron pan a while ago - I checked numerous shops....and looked on Pricespy.
In the end I bought it from Briscoes - it was on sale at considerable discount......and yes, it really was.....

Doesn't mean briscoes always works out best though - but I wouldn't call that deception.
You could same the same about any of them in that case.

True...not all shops list there. NOt all shops list online at all.

But it's a great starting point.
The other shops I then go into and check.

1390995 2014-12-30 07:35:00 Another of my friends is a shop-a-holic says Wait, Wait, and then check out the JANUARY sales. everybody has spent their money and the stock must be moved, so goes out at a very low price! PPp (9511)
1390996 2014-12-30 18:05:00 Er....it annoys me.

Already the Boxing Day sales are ended, and the New Year ones advertised.

Then comes the back to school sales, the summer sale, the end of summer sale, the whatever all bloody year sale.

1390997 2014-12-30 19:16:00 Don't forget the Brisoes sale they have between sales or Kathmandu's sale they have when their not having a sale. gary67 (56)
1390998 2014-12-31 00:43:00 All those sales must have sold out, there's not a Boxing Day to be had anywhere. :( R2x1 (4628)
