1402253 2015-06-08 22:40:00 @paulw. You won't be able to re-use that win 7 key.

If you want to spend a few weeks reading about this stuff, go here www.tenforums.com

The original Win7 license will remain tied to that PC & tied to the Win10 upgrade . So you are not entitled to use the WIN7 license on another PC.

If you actually can anyway is another question. Im sure many will try.
MS arnt stupid, they know if that Win7 key has been used on more than 1 PC (via the activation process) . Just how MS will handle user trying
to reuse Win7 install keys remains to be seen, I suspect they will just let that happen, as they do now. You may have to do a phone activation & even tell them
why its being re-used.
Since you can (& must) re-use (Win Professional) install keys for Downgrades, they really cant block Win PRO install keys being re-used.

1402254 2015-06-08 23:01:00 It seems like a can of worms but a similar process happened with the cheap upgrade to win 8 so I guess there are precedents. I will just take my freebies and move on! linw (53)

1402256 2015-06-09 20:37:00 Two things:

I'm running Win 7 SP1 but I haven't received my "upgrade invitation" yet. I wasn't in today's Update. Do I need this or can I just get it after 29 july?

Secondly www.pcworld.com has a host of articles about the upgrade but doesn't cover my question

you don't need it, you can just do the upgrade on July 29

www.microsoft.com

maybe you have a Windows 7 machine rather than SP1, or Enterprise version or domain joined that won't be offered the reservation package

Manually checked to make sure all updates were installed and they were as well as several other so called fixes - Still No go :(

Been reading quite a few forums and LOTS of people have the same problem, all legit but no notification.

This morning after reading the post by Chris -- thought Stuff this gonna fix it if its the last thing I do today :nerd:

Just found the following Page / Site how-to-display-the-windows-10-upgrade-icon-if-it-is-not-visible/ (www.ghacks.net) Downloaded the Script, ran it, 1st option all good -- Second option - and bingo --- Now the reserve is showing.

Don't know if that's a good or bad thing, probably nag me to death now

1402259 2015-06-09 23:42:00 main reasons are:

Not every device will see the notifications at the same time so there might just be a delay as we roll it out to all capable devices. Here are some other potential reasons that you would not see the upgrade notification if:

•Your device isn't running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update.

•You are running an Enterprise version of Windows.

• Windows automatic updates are not enabled on your device.

•Your device may not meet the minimum system requirements.

•Your device is not connected to the Internet.

•Your device is eligible however, we are still working on updates that may improve your device’s experience, like getting a new driver.

•If your device is eligible, you can still reserve your upgrade to Windows 10 even if you don’t see the notifications. Just open the Get Windows 10 App to get started.

1402260 2015-06-10 00:04:00 Ya forgot one nath :D--- Windows is Broken :p

On the office PC here , it exceeds all the requirements and everything is on /updated, it has had W10 Preview on a different drive, all hardware is working, even the brother printers ( windows has no drivers - but the W8.1 from brother do) and other software that some say wont work. (WHS 1st version). Some things that dont work on W10 preview is the Error message on shutdown, and when you try to turn off some options in the start menu it breaks it completely (and Cortana). Bound to be others items that need tweaking :)

1402261 2015-06-10 00:55:00 None of my 3 windows 8.1 pcs have had a notification yet and personally I'm happy that way. No rush, I'll have a whole year to make the upgrade. dugimodo (138)
1402262 2015-06-10 03:43:00 Nice to see a patient man, dugi! Also, nice to see someone kind enough to keep out of the download maelstrom so others can get theirs! linw (53)
