1401792 2015-06-02 05:13:00 Re the Windows updates:
Only Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise users will be able to defer updates. Cheeky marketing ploy to upgrade to Pro = More $$ for MS ?

1401793 2015-06-02 05:19:00 People are starting to get a notification (an icon in the taskbar) to get Windows 10 (reserve it),

Yes I've got it. If I click Check My PC (or whatever) it gives two errors - one a "device", the other an "app"

I presume Intel have made fixes available or will soon do so (GA-Z77N-WIFI) I reinstalled Windows at start of March

1401794 2015-06-02 05:27:00 Probably need updated drivers for it. Hopefully Intel have some before the RTM comes out. You'll have to check the Intel site Speedy Gonzales (78)

Yes, I read that far, but I see it as MS. getting ready to ditch support for 7.

1401796 2015-06-02 07:24:00 Extended support for Windows 7 ends January 14, 2020. Alex B (15479)
1401797 2015-06-02 07:34:00 Yes, I read that far, but I see it as MS. getting ready to ditch support for 7. To add to what Alex posted.
For Windows 7
End of mainstream support ---- January 13, 2015 ( Been and gone already)

End of sales for PCs with Windows preinstalled (read as OEM) --- October 31, 2014

You'll be finding it harder and harder to buy Windows 7 Home Pre in shops now, many suppliers no longer have it, only Pro is available, some places do still advertise it, but wont be for much longer.

1401798 2015-06-02 08:35:00 "Windows 10 Home users will have updates from Windows Update automatically available"

more gobbldy gook. Why cant they be less ambiguous with important statements.
"available" : does that mean updates will auto download, autoinstall, just appear in the update list & give you the option when to install them???

Forced autoinstalling Winupdates are a serious issue, especially for notebook users . Ive seen Win trashed when users literally couldnt wait the 5-20 minutes for updates that wanted to install on shutdown.
Also, its often a good idea to wait a week or 2, plenty of buggy updates have left some PC's partly unusable in the past.
What about hardware driver updates via Winupdates. Ive seen that cause many issues , needing the driver reverted or re-installed.

Honestly, is that such a bad thing? If we look at the user base most vulnerable to cybercrime etc, it is your average Joe Blogs not the informed Home computer enthusiast/professional etc.

If you are particular about installing updates on your computer then my guess is it's unlikley you're the type of user that is actually going to use a "Home" version, you're more inclined to use Pro, Ent, Business etc.

I get your point and it makes sense but as we have all seen on this forum, the average user has no idea what is going on so plug that hole by installing all updates on "home" editions. It will also be good because if MS want's to make this "update" policy work then they are going to have to work harder at ensuring that all or as much of the available tech actually works with their OS.

All in all, these are good things.

Cheers,

1401799 2015-06-02 09:39:00 Windows 7 has everything I need, is 100% reliable, and I don't do Windows automatic updates. Very choosy when it comes to updates. Only updates I have on Auto are Anti virus and Malware. mzee (3324)
1401800 2015-06-02 11:07:00 For people asking about installing /downloading a W10 ISO when its released --- answers.microsoft.com (answers.microsoft.com) wainuitech (129)
1401801 2015-06-02 11:18:00 Nicely said chiefnz. Thanks for the clarification too, Alex B, it read as "You get it free for a year then you've gotta keep paying an annual subscription", when its as you said "Free IF you upgrade within a year, but if you muck around then you've gotta pay if you don't do the upgrade within a year".
