1390597 2014-12-22 18:16:00 So now they are having a hissy, "If auckland doesn't want it, then stuff them" (well not exactly their wording).....well great, I don't want it so they can bugger off.
Rates, our debt from council is bad enough.....so what, put the rates up yet again?
I think the casinos make bloated profits, how about they just feed some back into their business themselves.

1390598 2014-12-22 19:29:00 Grabbing money from the government is just their way of doing business. A bit of tinsel and glitter, then rake it in from the suckers.
Taking it from the Gov is far better because they don't have to provide seats, toilets etc. They are still taking the money from the same pool of people, just using the Gov't as collection agents.
Good business.

1390599 2014-12-22 20:34:00 The Government will have to pay up,or........... they will be sleeping with da fishes, wearing the latest concrete boots !!!!! ruup (1827)
1390600 2014-12-23 01:28:00 If the Casino wants this they should go to their shareholders for more money not the Auckland or NZ taxpayer.. paulw (1826)
1390601 2014-12-23 02:19:00 I agree with everyone, we don't need more gambling machines (even though I do not agree with the argument that the gambling money will come from NZ'ers - it won't)

However, everyone seems surprised when they shouldn't be.
The taxpayer are the suckers who pay for more than most would imagine in many fields. Always have been and always will be until we take away all spending from the government.

For example, take a local primary school here where I live. I have a mate who is a commercial painter who works for a company who has the contract to paint the school.
He told me that when he prices the job, he has been instructed by a government bureaucrat to cost the job, add his mark-up, then double the markup again to give a price. In other words, the same job quoted for you or me would cost roughly 25% less.
This is not a National government thing, it started around 2003 as best he can gather.

|When it comes to new developments like the casino, the developer always prices low, and once they begin construction, no-one would stop it half way through with an incomplete building when they announce the cost is going to double.
Look at Christchurch as another example, the council there has hugely overspent their budget on rebuilding a monument to themselves and they have hardly even started.
It is a rare commercial build that comes in on budget. (I would almost say non-existant, but cannot confirm)

1390602 2014-12-24 03:14:00 I have quoted high because I dont want the job (hydraulic fit out) and ended up with the job almost every every time. The only reason being the other companies dont want the job either and have done the same but done a more ridiculous quote. One I did a quote on I didnt want was for outfitting 5 Smart cars with a diesel tank and dispenser ( digger driver car) for a contractor . I did the measure up with no discount out of the price book (which has a 60% markup) multiplied it by 50% and still ended up doing the dumb job. The clown didnt want galv fittings or just hose clipped fuel hose, wanted HP hydraulic fittings and crimped hose through a electronic flow meter/ fllter, 12v pump. Done the same for a stinky rusty fishing boat at West Park Marina doubled the quote and prayed I didnt get it and ******* got it. prefect (6291)
1390603 2014-12-24 03:54:00 What beats me with these massive cost over-runs is the Consultant/Quantity Surveyors never get their arse sued off for incompetence instead of being paid exorbitant fees for said incompetence.

If whoever did the Consultancy work for SkyCity can’t produce Variation Orders to cover the additional costs they should be made refund any fees that have been paid plus costs and damages.
