2015-06-07 02:12:00 | I guys. A few weeks back, thanks to my tax return, I bought me a lovely HP laptop and goes really well. Was a little bit concerned buying it, being a great fan of XP....:clap My desktop is the dreaded Vista and would love to move more of our computing to the lappy. So I have two questions, :help: please. 1. How do I setup my printer, as lappy is on Wifi 2. I've finally got used to Vista's Windows Mail and was wondering if Windows 8/10 has a similar program. :thanks Ian

2015-06-07 03:23:00 | The printer -- Several ways it can be done. 1. Like Speedy posted, which would be a direct connection. 2. If you have the desktop PC you can always connect the printer to that, share it, then add the printer to the lappy as a shared printer - the only down side to that is the Desktop has to be on to enable printing. 3. Some Routers have a USB port that will take a printer. ( some have USB ports but not printer capable) IF your router can then depending on the software you can attach the printer to the Router, install software on the laptop, and as long as its network capable software can pick up the printer via the router. The Mail -- W8 and 10 both have a Mail App, it works fine if you have a web based ( MS account) but not on pop accounts. If you wanted a mail client, you can always download Microsoft Essentials, and install the Mail Program, that's more along the layout of the mail program in Vista.

2015-06-07 03:27:00 | Problem is, I do have a microsoft account, but until I bought laptop, not used it. I have Gmail, on POP, since the days you had to be refered to become a "member".

2015-06-07 03:40:00 | If you wanted Windows Essentials, ( Sorry called it Microsoft Essentials before) you can get it from windows.microsoft.com Then when installing, select Choose what programs you want to install (Worded Something like that) and untick the ones you don't want. | wainuitech (129) | |
2015-06-07 04:03:00 | To answer your other question: I have the disk that came with printer. Can I just use that? Not a good idea to unless its less than 6 months old. Go to Canons site and get the latest drivers for the OS/Printer. Depending on the actual model of printer W8 or W10 may have the drivers inbuilt already.
