1401883 2015-06-03 06:15:00 Hi,

Does anyone know of a webmail service that will allow you to access mail from another server via IMAP? I'm not after a one-time import; rather a stay-in-synch client so I can read/delete/file/send messages using the webmail interface and have the changes update on the server.

I have an email address at my own domain name, hosted by a commercial service (IMAP and POP3 accessible) and I use an IMAP client on both my personal laptop and my phone - all good so far. However I would also like to be able to read and reply to messages using my work laptop via a web-based client (especially when I'm travelling for work, and I don't want to install software or have my personal emails stored on the machine).

Trouble is, I can't find a suitable web client. As far as I can tell Gmail can't retrieve messages via IMAP at all and Outlook.com looks to only do a one-time import via IMAP.

Any suggestions?

You can install it on your own webserver and point it at any (or multiple) IMAP servers.

Usually they do, especially if as you say it is a commercial service.

1401886 2015-06-04 23:33:00 Good point, don't know why I didn't think of the website host's portal... The original email setup was set-and-forget many years ago and I've only used POP3/IMAP access since. Turns out they have RoundCube and it seems pretty good. Cheers both!

Out of interest, any idea why the web-based clients like GMail and Outlook.com will only retrieve via POP3??

I think you are getting things confuddled ?
webmail has nothing to do with pop3 or imap.

Gmail supports IMAP

imap & outlook.com (never tried it, supposedly supported)
