1391429 2015-01-03 17:23:00 Heard some interesting stats the other day on Top Gear which made me laugh.. it's actually safe to drink and drive!

Clarkson was saying that in the UK, there were around 3000 fatalaties caused by road acccidents where speed was a factor. During this period around 8000 deaths caused by alcohol related health issues.

However, also during 2013 there were around 780 deaths on their roads related to excessive drinking and driving.

Ergo, it's safer to drink and drive than it is to either just drink or just drive! :D

(But don't quote me on these stats - they're just more or less and from memory only.)

1391430 2015-01-03 20:45:00 Missleading use of stats there Greg. The 8K alcohol related health problem deaths have nothing to do with road deaths and come frome the entire population not just drivers :) CliveM (6007)

Yeah....LOL.

Actually you know how many people are killed by donkeys every year?! Ban donkeys.

1391434 2015-01-04 05:01:00 I would like to know how many deaths are caused from people being idiots. The last I read of was about a guy who jumped 10 meters from a pole into a pool and missed. (probably bad timing and taste, but I bet he was intoxicated).

Ban idiocy.

The guy leaping from the pole to the pool had to traverse a horizontal distance of almost 4 metres. The pole was closer to the tennis court - for the purpose of facilitating night tennis ... :groan:

See, he never stood a chance (www.whaleoil.co.nz)

1391436 2015-01-04 08:53:00 More people die in bed than in all other locations combined. What are OSH doing about Hi-Vis sheets and hard pillows with integrated ear muffs? You can't even get fireproof kevlar pyjamas, believe it or not.

Citipark UK - Who run Manchester/Leeds car parks (I think) have a interactive drink drive graphic, (towncentrecarparks.com) to entice website visitors to use their car parks, if over the legal limit. Their stats seem to reflect yours, with quite high Manchester/Leeds road fatalities. Yet not much it seems about drink - driving related.
