455819 2006-05-18 22:50:00 Rob kindly fitted a 4 port USB2 card in my PC.
I have a USB cable plugged in to one of the ports,so as to have it on the desk.
When I use it a message come up saying if I use a USB 2 it will operate more quickly.
Which suggest to me that I have to use a USB2 cable,is that right.?

Reinstall the USB driver - go into control panel, device manager, click on the USB Root Hub, properties, Update driver - let XP find it itself and it should then stop saying that at you.
You should also see Enhanced USB in the list under USB too.
I've had that before where the SP hasn't quite realised its already got USB functionality. That usually fixes it.

455826 2006-05-19 01:52:00 The USB cables that you purchase are not necessarily marked as being one or the other. I purchased what I assumed to be a USB2 cable from W/hse Stationary and because there was no mention of USB2 on the packet asked the salesperson who said they are 'all USB2 nowdays'. Of course it wasn't.

It's a good bet that you've got a USB1.1 cable unless it states clearly on the package otherwise.

455827 2006-05-19 01:52:00 One would have thought that Rob would be more than qualified to help you with this query. :confused:

Did Rob not leave the USB card driver with you?

<talks to self>
Actually, I'm not sure that WinXP needs one. The motherboard disc ought to be the one that does the job. But then, if SP2 is installed the mobo driver might upset SP2 and then you might be in a pickle... :eek:
</talks to self>

Might pay to check these things with Rob, methinks. ;)
