2006-05-18 17:54:00 | Hi there! I have Athlon XP Aopen motherboard based PC with Windows XP home. The printers scanner LPT1 port don't detect printer. Printer works OK on USB port . I suspect that the hardware of the port is the culprit. Is it possible to get and install another port on card? If it is not software problemof course. Any suggestions ? Thanks

2006-05-19 00:03:00 | Printer cable is OK since it works on another PC. I need this port for the scanner since it don't have USB. In general, are parallel port cards exist at all or not, that is one of my questions. Looked in Bios and it looks ok, the setting, I mean. Will check again anyway. | taly (5956) | |
2006-05-19 00:33:00 | Set the Parallel port settings to EPP, the port must be enabled for bidirectional support to work with a scanner. Correction: ECP and EPP should work as long as bidirectional support is enabled (some BIOSes have an etra setting for this) ECP should be faster for the scanner. Don't use any other mode though, as these 2 are the only modes that are bidirectional

2006-05-19 00:35:00 | pci parrell port cards do exist and are easy enough to get. however i would try harder at fixing the onboard one first. | tweak'e (69) | |
2006-05-21 06:22:00 | No luck after I have done the following In BIOS have set Onboard parallelpoll to 3BC/IRQ7and also tried 278/IRQ5 In parallelmode set to ECP ECPmode use DMA set to 3 Also tried EPP and EPP/ ECP According to help tried to print from command prompt . Was supposed to eject paper . It did not Reinstalled driver for Winxp and also checked that port Lpt1 selected . In all instances reply was: Printer not responding as well when was trying to point test page . From USB port it was ok . Perhaps onboard port was staffed?
