455767 2006-05-18 17:14:00 I have been reading forums for about 3 days now and tried several fixes but to no avail. I apologize in advance if there is an answer already, but I have not found it. Here is the background. All systems are running on XP pro Sp2. I have a small office netrork set up with a color naming convention so I will try to explain things keeping to that.

Router = WRT54g

Desktop "blue" has 2 hard drives one of which acts as a mock server that is shared to all computers on the network.

desktop "black" has the two office printers connected to it

desktop "silver"

desktop "purple"

laptop "gray"

laptop "red"

red, gray, purple, silver, and black can access blue and each other.

Blue(the issue computer) can connect to all but "black"

Blue can ping the IP address of black but not ping \\black

blue can not print to the printers attached to black.

When blue tries to access C:// Black via My Network Places, MNP does not respond.
When Blue tries to acces properties of a printer on Black (printer properties cannot be displayed the print spooler service is not running) error is displayed.

I have tried opening port 445 and several other fixes(net start spooler, net start rpss, uncheck and recheck sharing). I know this has become a long post, but I am tring to give enough detail to answer some questions ahead of time. I did an ipconfig /all and nothing jumps out at me except that all pc's have a node type of unknown except black, that has a node type of mixed??? I also do have nvidia nforce netwroking controller, but most issues I have read about with this do not sound like the same problems i am having.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, or point me in a direction of what might be the culprit.

455768 2006-05-18 21:26:00 What are the operating systems of blue and black.

Can you see the shared printers that are connected to black on another computer, if so can you print to one of those.

455769 2006-05-19 00:20:00 I'm guessing you do not have a WINS server, it sounds like a WINS issue.

can you connect to black using \\<IP address>\ instead of \\black\ ?

Check the following on both black and blue, in your network places right click on the network connection and click properties.
Click on TCP/IP and click properties, click advanced, click on the WINS tab.

I have a WINS server so I uncheck enable LMHOSTS look up, however if you do not have a WINS server check it (if you have to ask "what is a WINS server" you don't have one).

For NetBIOS select Default.

reboot both machines and try again.

Its important that you have NetBIOS enabled since this is how the machine names are resolved.

The last thing you can do is manually create an entry in the LMHOSTS.sam file on the blue computer
