455829 2006-05-19 02:14:00 The USB cables that you purchase are not necessarily marked as being one or the other. I purchased what I assumed to be a USB2 cable from W/hse Stationary and because there was no mention of USB2 on the packet asked the salesperson who said they are 'all USB2 nowdays'. Of course it wasn't.

It's a good bet that you've got a USB1.1 cable unless it states clearly on the package otherwise.
Am going in to Rangiora shortly, will look for a USB2 cable.
The package was a plasic bag that said nowt.

Fair enough and very kind of you. Have to admit that I will be learning something from it myself.

Remember to keep us posted as to the outcome. ;)

First thing I would like to say,is that at the back of my computer is the most horrible mess of wires,I hate going there.
Apart from that, I purchased a USB2 cable from Dickie,$10.50,1mt long.
Will have to wait for a test until I need the thing, will post when I do.

455832 2006-05-19 08:50:00 Hi C. While you were at Dickie's you should also have bought a USB hub to stick in to the end of your cable. Gives you several USB ports on your desk. Scouse (83)

Always a good time to remind, after I have been. ;)

455834 2006-05-19 09:48:00 They're nice to have, I bought a DSE one... some things work, some don't. Especially had fun with a USB scanner.

I ended up buying a nic with extra usb ports and now I have holes for Africa... amazing the number of bits that are usb nowdays :p

I hope the usb2 cable does the trick Cicero... if it comes to the crunch I'd say get a panel of USB ports over a USB hub.

I'll remind you after next time you've been to town :D

455835 2006-05-19 10:12:00 Hi C . While you were at Dickie's you should also have bought a USB hub to stick in to the end of your cable . Gives you several USB ports on your desk . Maybe Cic should have got one of those instead of the 4 port USB2 card that Rob installed .

Mind you, the latter would probably be less problematic than a hub from what I understand .

Out of interest, what are you plugging into the USB port, Cic? Your new camera? Card readers are better than USB leads for getting data off camera cards . ;)

455837 2006-05-19 14:40:00 Hmmm... what happened.. with SP2 you should have USB2... what disk is it asking for?

Try what pctec said or uninstall all them, reboot and windows should automagically find and reinstall them again.

Can you remember when I fitted the card, will help me track down exactly what one I used

455838 2006-05-19 15:00:00 Found it, fitted 11/04/05:
USB 2.0 PCI Card, 4+1 Port, NEC chipset

This www.st-lab.com is the download page for the card fitted.

Try the previous methods first, if that dosent work you could try the drivers on that site.

:D Your setup disc was a great coaster, in fact I used it for more than 6 months, untill I updated it with someone eleses Windows XP Home disc.
