456637 2006-05-21 23:11:00 Hi, we have the free version of nero that comes with the cdrom drive when you buy it. The users that are on the domain that arn't administrators can't burn cd's because when you open up nero it says you dont have burning rights and to download them from the internet... but when i'm logged on (i'm an admin) it lets me burn cd's. are there some sort of permissions i can tweak on the server to allow the burning of cd's? i dont see why i should have to download them from the internet? or is there any free burning software that will work for domain users?

cheers
Jimmy

456638 2006-05-21 23:30:00 You need to get your firewall to block Nero's access to the Internet. Greg (193)

456640 2006-05-22 00:07:00 Is this Nero 7??

I think it is. Its got nothing to do with a firewall.

I think there's an option in control panel, for this.

456641 2006-05-22 00:16:00 I am beginning to see this on other puters now too....

I am also beginning to think it's a part of the WDRM update.

Looks like if you get this update, then all the permissions go into the toilet (loo?) and you're stuck with a new set of rules. Have tried to change permissions on some of the systems that won't allow burning and they all have the WDRM thing.

Hopefully, this is just a localized fluke and the WDRMs or any DRMs are not at fault...but I am getting very wary of programs (and multi-monied persons) altering MY rights to do what I want.

Thankfully, I have not allowed the WDRM or the Sony Rootkit to get a toehold...yet!

456643 2006-05-22 00:27:00 Downlaod the Nero Burning Permissions program from Nero. Install on burner PC and set permissions for all users. Nero has been like this for a long time. Worked for me in a Domain when I set it up about 2 years ago. berryb (99)

456645 2006-05-22 00:30:00 From here (www.nero.com)

17. I am logged in as a normal user with limited Windows user rights. Why do I not have access to my CD/DVD writer drive(s) in Nero 7?

Since Windows 2000 and Windows XP do not grant access to low level drivers for users without administrative rights it's not possible for them to burn CDs or DVDs with Nero 7. The application Nero BurnRights allows users without administrative rights to burn CDs and DVDs with Nero.

The administrator is able to setup user accounts with exclusive burn rights for Nero. This option can be found in Nero StartSmart under Nero Toolkit > Nero BurnRights.

They are Digital Rights Management devices that are designed to deny you the opportunity to rip/burn/view/hear any media that has had the zone codes removed...and guess what? They can also mess with your home videos too...because there's no zones encryption on them...unless one has a very new cam that has those rights imprinted into them.

In the risk of running into a malestorm of heated debate activity, I run Nero7 and use it in a "User's" account with no hang-ups..also works well in "Admin" too...so I don't really know if that's a problem or not. I just gave Nero global permission to be used by "Users", and it ...er...works!
