456677 2006-05-21 09:16:00 I have used the shareware version until time was up and found it to be an excellent program. Apart from doing the business, it has great graphics and layout. Definitely, User Friendly.

456678 2006-05-21 09:17:00 Nope, I would just use programs like ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com) to get rid of crap on the system.

Spybot (http://www.spybot.info) to scan for spyware.

Adaware (www.http:) which is also for spyware.

Something like Zonealarm (http://www.zonelabs.com) for the firewall.

All free.

And something like AVG (www.grisoft.com) for a virus scanner.

You have to be careful what kind of program u get to fix registry entries.

Some programs (that claim they can fix registry entries) can do more damage.

And can delete valid entries in the registry. And if they remove the wrong entries, it can make a system unbootable / unuseable.

456679 2006-05-21 09:25:00 I have an older version that i once used extensivly on W98 machines, and sometimes still drag out of retirement every so often, Its just a trial version though, Install, run, uninstall.

Its main strength was (for my use anyhow) ridding the system of temp and cache files, but its larly been made reduntent with the likes of ccleaner, Having said that I still go and cheack all the usual locations for resistent files after running ccleaner, If you take the time to look under the user files its quite likely (on an infected machine) to still have nasty crap still in their going about its own bizzo even after a clean.

I gave up on System Mechanic when they reskinned it and added a boatload of bloat, Though that was probally years ago, time flies.

456680 2006-05-21 22:58:00 gidday,

Offers lots a ways of cleaning defragging etc . however, some computers dont seem to like it .

I tried it on a hewlett parcard some time ago, and every time I used it, it caused some glitching in the operating system .

cheers,

Robby
