456517 2006-05-21 00:55:00 I have successfully linked my wife’s school laptop with our home network (two computers) and files can be shared. However we are unable to connect to the Internet from the laptop. We have broadband, the host machine and the laptop are running XP Home. No doubt it will only take a small tweak to set this up successfully. I am not sure whether this next bit of info is helpful or not (in fact I don’t quite understand exactly what is involved). The school links to the Internet through Smart Net through the local school server. Any ideas or suggestions? allcamp (1882)
456518 2006-05-21 01:12:00 Because Smart Net uses a Proxy Server, Internet Explorer (or whatever browser you are using) is setup to access the internet using this proxy server. You will either have to change the Proxy Server setting in IE under the Connections/Lan option and change back when back at school. The best option would be to install Firefox or another browser for use at home. berryb (99)
456519 2006-05-21 01:18:00 if you do ave to use proxy settings you can simply toggle proxy settings on/off. good browsers have this by default ...there is an addon to let IE do it to. tweak'e (69)
456520 2006-05-21 01:21:00 Thank you very much for this info. I have installed Firefox on the laptop and had immediate success. Saves any hassles with changing proxy server settings. I really appreciate your help. allcamp (1882)
