456467 2006-05-20 09:56:00 Hey all.

So I am making a website for a mate of myne. And I decided for my navigation panel, I wanted flash buttons instead of text buttons (cause flash is oh so cool)...

So anyway. I make my navigation, I have Home, Members, and all that crap etc. etc. And so now I wish to make a link for each of them.

Ofcourse home is going to be index.htm so thats all good.

But I get to a problem when I have the members button.

I know a bit about iframes, so I decide to put an iframe in the content part of my index.htm site. NOW, what I want to do, is load all of the navigation buttons to this iframe... Sounds easy right? well...

With text navigation, all you had to do, was set the link to the "members.htm" site you have, and then in your iframe put the command <name="content"> after iframe, with all the crap like width and stuff.

So i make the name content, and then I click on the text and change the TARGET, to content... (i just type it in)...

Then when i click on my "text" button, it loads everything on the members.htm page into the iframe... Cool... But now with flash.

I go to make the flash button, which is easy enough with premade flash buttons in dreamweaver.... And then when I am entering all the details, like the name on the button, the size, the background colour, i notice the "target" box... And I think to myself, oh cool, I can just type content in here and then when i click on my button, it will load in the iframe... Wel it turns out, when i am in my flash button settings, the "target" box, just has a dropdown menu, with preset ones like "_parent" and stuff like that... You can't actually type ANYTHING for yourself...

Yes I have tried making the <name="_parent"> on my iframe, and then just choosing the _parent from the dropdown menu in the "target" part... But it still doesnt load my damn members page in the iframe...

I don't want text navigation either, if that makes anything more complicated :(

Anyone had this problem? do they know how to get around it?

Cheers

456468 2006-05-20 10:49:00 Hmmm, I believe those preset ones like _parent actually mean something. _parent should link to the parent frame, not the frame named _parent.

I think Stu may be able to help, because he uses dreamweaver a fair bit.

Anyway, imo, frames = bad, flash for menus = bad, yadayada..... (waits for someone more knowledgable on this topic)

456469 2006-05-20 12:05:00 Um. I am not using frames. Im using tables, I just have an iframe inside one of the tables. It hapens to be the content table, where all the information about the site occurs. So when u click "members" for instance, it loads the members page inside the content page... Hollow (5995)
