| 456783 | 2006-05-22 03:46:00 | I am hoping that someone can help me out here, i have a LiteOn DVD/CD player, when i put ANY disc in it starts to spin then nothing, sometimes it has a few attempts of spinning at the start, then the same, nothing, when i double click the cdrom icon it goes blue like its going to start, but it doesn't. I have checked all cables power and grey cable, they are good and in the correct position, the jack is set to master on the back, i have had a look in device manager and there is no yellow exclamation marks, in properties it says its working properly, and is enabled. Whilsty in properties i happened to look at region settings, its not set to anything, i used a program that told me that " the Drive has region protection, Region code not set, user has 5 changes left. I loged on as a administrator in safe mode to try to set the region, it would not let me change the settings, saying i can't do this in safe mode, but i can't log on in normal mode as a administrator. Any thoughts anyone ?? |

| 456786 | 2006-05-22 04:50:00 | Brush-based cd lens cleaner discs don't usually do anything, and quite often can actually cause damage to the lens by scratching it with pieces of dust. The best way is to just get a cotton bud dampened with alcohol (or just water) and clean the lens with that - works great with top-loading CD players etc (however for a CD/DVD drive you'd have to disassemble it) it could be a bad setup in the BIOS for your drive (PIO selected over UDMA can cause problems with high-speed CDRW and DVD drives) Has the drive always been doing this? or has it just done it recently?? what windows are you running? |

| 456787 | 2006-05-22 05:56:00 | I just haved pulled it all apart carefully cleaned the lense with methylated spirits put in back in and the same deal, just starts spinning at the start then nothing, there is a better response from start to it dies out again, but thats about all. I tried a friends recorder and it ran well so can't be any of the PC settings i suppose, but this region thing has got me still thinking. any suggestions, please |

| 456789 | 2006-05-22 06:33:00 | Ignore the region setting, its normal for all drives to have it, plus it's telling you it still hass all 5 changes left (which is what it shipped with) It only affects DVD movies for areas other than Zone 4, after 5 "zone changes" it will only play the last region it locked to. It has no bearing on CD's or data DVDs. The Device Manager can see no further than the interface electronics, a fault beyond there will not show up. It sounds like it has died. A replacement would be the only way forward, that being the case. |
