2006-05-24 01:45:00 | Hi all I'm on one of the 256Kbps/128Kbps plans, and i have noticed up loading to my site is painfully slow for instance it has taken me 16 minutes to upload 1 . 6 mbs of data, the problem is, i don't know how long it should take to upload files to my server with my upload speed is 16mins for 1 . 6mbs about right? or is it painfully slow I have tried with both an Ftp client and dreamweaver, but they are both incredibly slow, so before i talk to my hosting company (who are actually really good on the customer service side of things), I just want to make sure i actually have a legitimate problem Cheers am not sure how long it should take on with my plans u

2006-05-24 01:54:00 | if you are uploading at 128k/s, it shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to do 1.6mb. 128k is the maximum speed - most the time you will be a bit below that, but 16 mins for 1.6mb is dialup speed. Do the NZDSL speed test & see what it says your upload speed is.

Is the server in the US or NZ? & have you tried uploading late at night? |

2006-05-24 03:39:00 | tested it here (www.nzdsl.co.nz) Download Speed: 258 kbps (32.3 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 131 kbps (16.4 KB/sec transfer rate) So i might query my server Guy, it's hosted in the US (cheaper)

2006-05-24 05:58:00 | who is your ISP? orcon for instance at one point were traffic shaping humble old FTP traffic (and even the newsgroup port of 119) to feeble sub dial up modem speeds. The only thing fast was HTTP at one stage until people obviously moaned.

2006-05-24 07:33:00 | although i'd like those specsHosts that claim to offer specs like that are overselling heavily and their service suffers as a result (most cut their customers off well before they reach those limits anyway, based on CPU restrictions etc). I thought that might be a potential reason, but obviously not it you are paying a realistic price for your hosting. :) | maccrazy (6741) | |
