457017 2006-05-23 00:41:00 Help!

I have a PC with XP SP2. Before installing SP2 I put in a PCI TV card, WinFast XP2000 Expert. All worked well until I installed SP2 then the PVR would only work in TV / video mode if a CD was sitting in the D drive! Radio mode worked no problem. If I took out the CD then I'd get a message along the lines of "STI driver missing" and the WinFast application would crash. Consequently over the past year or two I haven't used the PVR as much as I'd have liked.

A couple of days ago I found that WinFast, through Leadtec, have a new app and new drivers. So I downloaded these and tried to install the new drivers after setting a restore point. DISASTER!!

The comp will now not boot the XP OS. I have :

Entered safe mode (no problems) and gone back to the restore point - no help.
Run an ininstall driver program from leadtec in safe mode to remove the device drivers - no help.
Uninstalled the drivers through windows device manager as an unspecified video device driver keeps reappearing after step 2 above - no help.
Used add/remove programs under control panel in safe mode to remove the Winfast application. 1 part of the app has been removed but another part, the PVR, keeps reappearing so - no help.
Run a reg cleaner in safe mode - no help.
Tried reloading the original drivers. One of the 3 drivers reloads apparently successfully (video recorder) but the other two drivers (crossbar and TV tuner don't) - system still won't boot.

Please help. All seems to work well in safe mode. I suspect I need to edit the registry? I really don't want to wipe the disc and reload the OS. Is there a magic DOS program I can download which will fix all? Please, please, please.

Many thanks to the Press F1 experts who have never yet let me down. (Currently at work - so will have to try all the useful suggestions tonight.)

457018 2006-05-23 01:05:00 Are you able to download from the net? (Even if you have to use another computer), I assume you are. Go to here (http://docsdownloads.com) and download Dr Delete. It doesn't have an installer so create a new folder in your Program Files. Download to this new folder. Create a shortcut. Now start Dr Delete and browse to your stubborn file and Click DELETE ON SYSTEM RESTART. Reboot in safe mode and part of your problem will be fixed. Now run RegCleaner again. Personally, I prefer RegscrubXp, (can't recall where I got it), see if you can download this then run this too.

This may or may not solve your problem completely but it certainly will be a step in the right direction.

Both programs mentioned above are Freebies.

457019 2006-05-23 01:08:00 The other PC here, has the Expert tuner in it .

It had a similar prob, (after I had reformatted it), I installed the older drivers with the latest version of the PVR program, and it crashed once .

So: I had to do the following to fix it . It hasnt crashed since .

If the PVR program is still installed, I would uninstall it, then delete its folders, then delete the Leadtek entries in the registry . Just make sure u delete the right entries . Then try the uninstall tool off the Leadtek site .

Select the option that says recommended . (DON'T select the system option under this) .

The bottom option will delete/remove the LAN/soundcard/SMB controller entries in Device Manager, and they'll have to be reinstalled again) .

Then use ccleaner (http://www . ccleaner . com) click on run cleaner, then click on the issues tab / then click on scan for issues . Delete everything that comes up .

Then get the latest drivers ( . leadtek . com . tw/eng/tv_tuner/download . asp?downlineid=67&pronameid=93&lineid=6&act=3" target="_blank">www . leadtek . com . tw) for the Expert, install them, then install the latest version of the PVR program (you HAVE to install the latest version of the drivers, and the latest version of the PVR program, otherwise the FM program wont work) .

457020 2006-06-02 21:21:00 Thanks for advice. I have been away and working on problem intermittently. So far have removed all folders, files, programs for WinFast. I have run ccleaner and "cleaned" the registry. I have physically removed the WinFast card. Still will not boot normally. Boots fine in safemode though. Any other advice?

Thanks

457021 2006-06-02 21:41:00 Hmm, there is an update for the PVR/FM program on the site now .

3 . 0 . 10 . 93 . (Even tho it says 3 . 0 . 10 . 94 on the site, its isnt . 94) .

I would make sure you have removed the drivers completely (with the removal tool) and the application .

If you have downloaded the latest drivers from here ( . leadtek . com . tw/eng/tv_tuner/download . asp?downlineid=67&pronameid=93&lineid=6&act=3" target="_blank">www . leadtek . com . tw)

Install them FIRST, before you install the program .

The only thing with the latest version (which the previous version also had), is Leadtek (have once again) screwed up the PVR / TV side of this program .

You cant add more than 7 channels to it (which also happened in the previous version, which was fixed soon after) .

If u add more than 7 channels (in the latest version), if you quit and run Winfast PVR again, any channels after the 7th channel will be scrambled (Even tho, you've just tuned them in) .

lol, and once again, I have notified Leadtek of this by email .

I notified Leadtek about the previous version, which did exactly the same thing, and they sent me a fixed exe file, (which worked) .

BUT, Leadtek think its my prob (my reception isnt good enough) .

Even tho, I can get channels 1,2,3, C4, Prime, Maori channel, and the Racing channel . I used to have Juice, and Alt TV . Until I quit . And these are the channels that cant be added . Coz of this glitch/bug .

I even sent them snapshots of the TV channels I've tuned in .

And they still think its a reception prob . Why I cant add more than 7 channels . (like duh) . . Obviously, this isnt the prob .

457023 2006-06-05 11:40:00 Uninstall the programmes or click repair. Win XP SP2 is always like that. MTLance (6768)
