| 457345 | 2006-05-24 09:30:00 | Hi Win Media Player has been crashing for sometime when playing wmv files with this error: AppName: wmplayer.exe AppVer: 10.0.0.3802 ModName: unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: e991403d I've deleted & reinstalled several times, removed all the "extra" codecs that I've installed. It did work for a long time. I've installed various other media players (Cyberlink DVD, Quick Time, iTunes, Music Match, Real Audio etc) over the months, not sure if this is a compatability issue or what..... Win XP Home + SP2, 512Mb RAM, 2.4Mhz CPU. Any thoughts anybody...?? |

| 457349 | 2006-05-25 06:37:00 | Hi Not overclocking Crashes as a stand-alone app, not within a browser. Yep, had a good look through Google for an answer. I've previously installed a whole lot of codec packs - I suspected that one of them may have caused the problem in the first place, which is why I did a clean install of WMP 10 without extra codecs - still crashes. I can play SOME wmv files, seem to crash on others. I suspect it may be a codec problem, however these files play on other PC's with WMP with no additional codecs installed. |

| 457350 | 2006-05-25 15:59:00 | I don't normally get a crash in WMP 10 when I have a bad or incorrect or damaged codec. I usually see a message that Windows cannot play the file requested, and then it asks me if I want to search the internet for a codec or just iggy the problem and do something else. So, I am not clear on your thought that you are crashing in WMP for lack of.... or an incorrect codec. |

| 457351 | 2006-05-25 16:16:00 | You got me interested about this, and I did a little more research (what will probably be good for me in the long run anyway), and here's what I found on another site; I still don't understand your original problem of WMP "crashing", unless just refusing to play something is a new crash criteria: .......(I) solved this issue by installing inmatrix zoom player. The installation will prompt you with a list of not working codecs and links to download the fixed codec. Just click and download every codec and install them. Your windows media player will be working fine. Now let me see if I can find that InMatrix Zoom thing.....I am sure it's on this page (www.mrtech.com) somewhere..but I cannot find it yet...still looking.........(lots of neat stuff there though!) I personally would try this though: go to C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\Installer\ or wherever you have installed media player and see if you can run mpsetupxp.exe |

| 457352 | 2006-05-26 00:56:00 | Hi Sorry, what I mean by "crashing" is when I try and open up some .wmv files, I'll get the ".....Windows has encounted an error.....and will close...click here for more information....." message. When I click the message, I get the dialogue box as described originally. Media Player worked for a long time prior, however I did a lot of codec installs at one point, to try and play a wider selection of video formats. This is why I thought that maybe I have a codec conflict. Also, it WILL play some .wmv files, as well as most other video/audio formats - .mpg, .mid, .avi etc. I'm replying form work, I'll try out your suggestions when I get home. Thanks for your interest and help with this......much appreciated....will keep you posted on progress. |

| 457353 | 2006-05-28 09:32:00 | I downloaded the Zoom Player app, and installed all the codecs. Zoom Player works fine, but alas it hasn't fixed my problem with WinXP Media Player.....
