| 458061 | 2006-05-27 00:03:00 | I have just added an access point to my network (CNet CWR-854 D), and I am having speed issues with it. The signal strength is great, the connection speed sets to 54MBits/sec, but I am unable to achieve more than about 4-5% throughput, even when holding the laptop right next to the router. The rest of the (wired) network goes great. Any ideas? | Erayd (23) | ||
| 458062 | 2006-05-27 08:32:00 | Try the TCP Optimizer from this site, I have used it on my laptop wireless card & NICs on my 2 desktops and have seen a good increase in throughput. www.speedguide.net I used the optimal settings. |

I tried it anyway though - and it destroyed the usability of the connection, causing it to repeatedly drop to zero throughput. I restored the backup and it's now back to 5%. The cause of the problem is not with the Windows TCP/IP stack, as wired ethernet works fine. Any ideas what could be causing the issue? I am guessing an AP setting, as both the laptops I have tried have the same issue. | Erayd (23) | ||

Yes, the AP does let me add MAC addresses of clients, but I currently have it set to allow all clients to connect. I am using it in infrastructure mode. Encryption is enabled (WPAPSK with 30 character key). All machines have the same key. The issue is not being able to connect - all the wireless machines work fine. The problem is the speed of the connection, which never seems to run faster than about 2.5MBits/sec. Even in the same room as the AP. Wired ethernet works fine, both when connected to the main switch & when connected to the AP's onboard switch. |

| 458069 | 2006-05-27 10:00:00 | Could the problem simply be that the AP sucks? I tried disabling the encryption and the throughput doubled, but 5MBits/sec is still pretty shocking. I also tried using both laptops simultaneously - they both dropped back to 2.5MBits/sec. Strange thing is, the link is connected at 54MBits/sec. Return to place of purchase?
