457964 2006-05-26 11:07:00 ifconfig should work (as root)

Ethereal is a good network app

457965 2006-05-26 12:27:00 You need to be root:
su
and give it the password

route -v
ifconfig -a
iwconfig (wireless)

nmblookup computername
nmblookup -A 192.168.0.xxx

457966 2006-05-26 14:22:00 It's more likely because you're not specifying the exact location, if you don't want to specify the location then do "su -" when you su to root, that way path information for root will be understood.

You don't have to be root to get information about your network, just when altering.

/sbin/ifconfig

457967 2006-05-27 06:46:00 Most distributions give the option to install GUI networking tools - with Fedora Core 5 you get: GNOME TOOLS (homepages.xnet.co.nz)

As always though - knowledge of the command shell tools is best!
