| 457583 | 2006-05-25 08:27:00 | Finally, we have decided to go wireless. This is our LAN layout: Dynalink RTA770 ADSL router (existing) Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router (given by a friend) 3 Desktops running XP Home 2 Laptops running XP Pro. Now, I understand that both the ADSL Router and the wireless Linksys Router are using the same IP address, i.e. 192.168.1.1. How am I going to configure and connect the two together? Will there be a conflict of IP addresses when they are connected? Is there a way to change one of the IP address? Cheers |

Yea good on you Xtra.... That won't make any difference to the routers if they are using the same IP address. What you will have to do is disconnect one of you computers from the ADSL router and connect it to the wireless router. Then configure the wireless router to a different / free IP address in your network IP range. Then reconnect to the adsl router and you should be good to go. |

Am I right to say that we can change the default IP Address of the either the Wireless Router or the ADSL router? It's better to change the Wireless or the ADSL router? Which one you reckon is easier to configure? Never done this before and it sounds interesting and challenging, too. Thanks for sharing with me your valuable expertise. Cheers |

The wireless router is gonna be a bit trickier to set up anyway, in regards to the wireless settings, so may as well change the IP address while you are there  Unplug one of the PC's from the ADSL router and plug it into the wireless router. You may need to give the PC a manual IP if the wireless router is not a DHCP server. If it is a DHCP server make sure you disable this as you can only have one DHCP server on the network. Give it an IP address that is free on your network and then reconnect the ADSL router. Get both routers working together on the network before worrying about setting up the wireless lan. |
