Certified USB 2.0 cables are indeed available and preferred, but they're usually just high-quality USB 1.1 cables apparently. (Confirmed on Google) |

| 457580 | 2006-05-26 05:49:00 | My understanding is that USB 2.0 cables are specified to have larger conductors in the DC pair, and better controlled impedance (and also slightly larger wire) in the twisted pair data lines. (You can often see the wire gauges printed on the sheath. Smaller numbers are bigger wires: e.g. 24 AWG is bigger than 26 AWG. Look for 24 AWG or bigger for prefernece). Good USB 1.1 cables will be fine. Most short USB 1.1 cables will probably be OK. Bad USB 2.0 cables won't be. "Good" and "Expensive" aren't necessarily correlated. Try the cables you've got. If you need to buy new ones, you'll probably find only 2.0 in shops, but check. |
