457536 2006-05-25 06:24:00 I cant get this to work. I have rebuilt a couple of older pcs lately and have reloaded the original Windows 98se from the disks that came with them, so its the genuine article. I have then gone to MS windows update but it wont work -get the message "Windows update failed". Has MS removed this service for 98 (I know that it is imminent) or is there a catch? Do I have to register Windows or somethiong silly like that? I don't recall having to do that in the past. andy (473)
457537 2006-05-25 07:55:00 Support will be running out on 11/7/06.

According to the MS site here (www.microsoft.com)

Here's some updates (www.microsoft.com)
you can download manually.

Or if you know someone with XP SP1, the 98 updates are on the cd.

457539 2006-05-27 03:02:00 Thanks speedy and Paul,
I have an XP sp1 disk but it didn't have any Win98 files on it but it jogged my memory - in feb 04 MS issued a security update disk, which did have all the 98 files on it. Once I installed that, which installed IE6, Windows Update worked happily.
Cheers,
andy
