| 457536 | 2006-05-25 06:24:00 | I cant get this to work. I have rebuilt a couple of older pcs lately and have reloaded the original Windows 98se from the disks that came with them, so its the genuine article. I have then gone to MS windows update but it wont work -get the message "Windows update failed". Has MS removed this service for 98 (I know that it is imminent) or is there a catch? Do I have to register Windows or somethiong silly like that? I don't recall having to do that in the past. | andy (473) | ||

| 457539 | 2006-05-27 03:02:00 | Thanks speedy and Paul, I have an XP sp1 disk but it didn't have any Win98 files on it but it jogged my memory - in feb 04 MS issued a security update disk, which did have all the 98 files on it. Once I installed that, which installed IE6, Windows Update worked happily. Cheers, andy |
