457322 2006-05-24 10:58:00 Have "lost - (i.e. can't find)" my 25 character W98 product key - it was written down somewhere - yes it was legit.
I really need to rebuild from scratch. Is there some way I can retrieve it from my functioning W98 system?

457325 2006-05-24 15:48:00 Of course, NOD will do that...you are cruising thru your inner sanctum of your opsys when you use Jellybean.....I actually prefer to use Belarc Adviser (www.belarc.com) ...it doesn't seem to throw up as much of a ruckus to your security stuff.

Besides, Belarc tells a lot more about your system...print it out for later...you'll like that a lot when you need the info it gleens.

Yes it does. But there are other key finder programs around that NOD32 is happier with - use one of them.

as far as i know, what is stored in the registry is similar to the old W95 OEM/cd key.
you can derive the registration key from this, but that's what keyfinders are for.

457331 2006-05-26 02:53:00 win9x/me stores the actual key. key finders simply display that registry entry, its just nicer to have a gui app do it rather than search the registry. its not to be confused with product id which is the ID of the OS not the product key. to make life fun i think 95 words it back to front. tweak'e (69)
