457974 2006-05-26 12:42:00 i want my parents laptop to always be turned on, unless its running off battery (which it almost never is).
basicly there is stuff on its samba share that i want to access etc, also i like to precache files before i burn to dvd using its burner (mine can never be trusted on dvds).
its a pretty standard WinXP pro sp2 install.
im sure i have most of the power management settings right, but after a while i just seems to turn off, hit the keyboard and it snaps to life.
what settings are there that could affect this?

457975 2006-05-26 19:12:00 Turn hibernation off (control panel / power options / hibernate tab).

Turn the screen saver off (right mouse on desktop / properties / screen saver).

Set it to none.

457976 2006-05-27 02:38:00 You could also set it to "wake on LAN". That way, when you wanted to access it, it would wake up. There would be short delay the first time you access, but it would stay up for the time you set. Probably it would hibernate fro a large proportion of the day. Graham L (2)
457977 2006-05-27 09:31:00 It would probably be a good idea to remove the battery (store around 40% charge), and it would be best for the screen to let it turn off, otherwise you'd be killing the life of the lcd panel. Marmion (9274)
