457772 2006-05-25 23:24:00 I am wanting to know how to do video tutorials, that I can stick on my website.

The way I would describe it would be a 'screen capture'. A small video showing how to perform an action in eg. The Gimp.

I could do screenshots, but when it is a long process, it could get very tedious. I thought a small video would be easier.

I don't want sound, but I wouldn't mind been able to add small captions and text to describe what is happening.

And they have to be a good qulity/size ratio, since they are going on the web.

Can anyone recommend a program and file format?

Thanks.

Will do it. BUT, they're not free.

Stupid Insert hyperlink icon wont work!

You say ANY of the programs can do it? The SnagIt one only looks like its a complicated screenshot program, not a recording?

Anyone know of any free/cheap ones?

Hmmm, I wonder if FRAPS can do it?

457776 2006-05-25 23:55:00 Ok, SnagIt can do video capture. It looks very nice. Thanks for the link.

I am going to try out a few free ones first, such as the link you gave me, and there are also a few on sourceforge.

What is a good file format for doing this?
