458100 2006-05-27 04:19:00 Is it necessary to have monitors that are closely related or even of the same abilities/capacities to run in dual mode?

Just wondering as I have a rather older monitor that is just collecting dust sitting on my floor, and I have a vid card that is capable.

Can the settings (refresh rate, etc) be individually set or is it global?

458101 2006-05-27 04:50:00 In my case, they certainly can be different.

However having different resolutions is a pain, as one screen is a different size, relative to the other. Means you cannot easily mouse across at the top or bottom, you hit an invisible "wall".

458102 2006-05-27 05:49:00 I'm not actually running them together at the moment but I have a 17" LCD and a 15" CRT that have been running in dual mode in the past. Like Godfather says it is not ideal but it's not terribly dreadful either so if you have a spare sitting doing nothing you may as well put it to work.

Refresh and resolution settings are set individually and you just have to do a bit of extra mouse excercise to overcome the "invisible wall" that Godfather mentions.

458103 2006-05-27 06:36:00 I have a 19 inch and 17 inch running in dual and it is fine, if you can set them to the same resolutions then there will be no mouse problems... The_End_Of_Reality (334)

... which is a complication that you can't get around with if you have two LCDs with different resolutions. LCDs' screen resolution is normally set by the manufacturer and will result in ugly mode if changed by the user.

Cheers :)

458105 2006-05-27 11:48:00 I got my 17" CRT and LCD working in harmony. Just plug in, set the software to horizontal span and click apply. Piece of cake. Cornot (10386)
