| 458656 | 2006-05-29 09:39:00 | Oh? And all this little ISPs will soon be busy racing around the whole of NZ installing stuff in ALL the exchanges everywhere? Somehow I doubt it. There'll be the usual mouthing about offering "fast" broadband without mentioning the small print that says except if you live somewhere other than Akld, Wngtn or Ch/ch. Actually, that's not too bad.... That covers like 70% of the population... A reduction in price, increase of quality of service to a great part of NZ seems like a good deal to me.... I see that you're living in the "deep south", but if 70% of NZ gets cheaper faster broadband, I'm sure you'll get $5-$10 at least off your current broadband bill... |

Any faster port speeds without a substantial upgrade of the Telecom DSL network will probably mean a decrease in speed and service for most consumers, there is clear evidence of this with the recent 2 - 3.5MB upgrade. I like TC being ordered to offer faster speed. It scares the crap out of me providers might actually try to offer faster speeds on the current network before there own gear goes in (probably at least a year away). Never thought in a 100 years I would be arguing for slower speeds until about 6 weeks ago when the Telecom network gave us a clear indication of what it is capable of (much over 2MB and there are huge performance issues). We are all in for a year to year and a half of **** DSL broadband. |

The half the problem is the contention ratios if TC did not increase the contention ratio's then we wont have the problems we are having now. |

I guess there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but its probably over a year away, until then I can see DSL getting even worse. |

You can only get 24mb if you are within 1km of the exchange |

| 458663 | 2006-05-30 12:46:00 | God knows I've had my hassles with Telstra Clear - but right now Paradise cable is starting to look like - well er Paradise. I don't think I'd move to somewhere that didn't at least have the option of cable. | Twelvevolts (5457) | ||

And what happened to Telstra clears cable project was the Auckland city council wanted all the cable put underground even where there were power pols, retards!. So it was too expensive, and cable in NZ ground to a halt. |
