458116 2006-05-27 17:05:00 Hi ppl, my ISP is world-net. Recently it seems taht i am getting speeds of 15-20KB per sec when downloading from international sites (ie microsoft, apple, fileplanet etc) and 200KB per sec when downloading from local NZ sites.

I am on a 2mbps plan paying $69.95. They said its normal... and i am like ***? u call 20kb per sec downloading normal...

Just wanted to know if u guys have such a problem and what isp is the best to switch to?

In their defence, I have to say I've been using World-net for some years now and consider this post to be an ill-considered and hasty condemnation of a company that has given me excellent service and who I recommend to anyone who asks my opinion.

Sure, there are minor glitches and brief outages, slow connects and unavailable sites at times, and yes, sometimes download speeds from busy American sites range from 0 kbs to sub-adsl speeds at certain times of the day, but I accept this and hope that the whole thing improves in time and that speeds will increase by orders of magnitude in the not too distant future.

In the meantime, I still have a sense of wonder and gratitude that the whole web thing exists at all and provides me with a such marvellous, almost magical hobby.

d00zer, you need to understand that there are many complex infrastructures that comprise the internet, and any of them can and will go adrift at times. To blame any one segment of the process out of hand is not a useful frame of mind to adopt.

Your speed problem could be due to one or more of any number of issues, and don't rule out the possibility that one of these may be that your expectations may be just a bit too demanding.
