458460 2006-05-28 07:21:00 Looks like there's a Java update

Here (sdlc-esd.sun.com ee6c47b66&TUrl=an1npDpbKod7kSYrROhENTonIuA1W0D1Lc4nXz+pGFFra nixdCdgxDTPbW4=&TicketId=dld+OARJMOg6+w==&GroupName=SDLC&BHost=sdlc4i.sun.com&FilePath=/ESD24/JSCDL/jdk/1.5.0_07/jre-1_5_0_07-windows-i586-p.exe&File=jre-1_5_0_07-windows-i586-p.exe)

The site is here (sdlc6a.sun.com PageInfo;jsessionid=45383A6434706863D8997136BD4F55 76;jsessionid=45383A6434706863D8997136BD4F5576)

BUT you may have to log in.

Which is a security fix.

Even tho, it doesn't show here (www.java.com) its official.

Because Sun were too lazy to put it here.

And info bout the new version here (blog.washingtonpost.com)

Remember to uninstall the previous version BEFORE you install this version.

I've downloaded, and installed this version, and it has been digitally signed and certified to be from Sun.

458464 2006-05-28 09:30:00 No worries :) Did the online install remove the previous version??

Before it installed?

458465 2006-05-28 09:54:00 Just checked my Java settings for Mozilla Firefox, notice that my Mozilla is not enabled- only IE is enabled.

Should I or should I not enable Java for my Firefox?

What are the pros and cons of having Java enabled?

Cheers

458466 2006-05-28 10:08:00 The pros - sites that need it will work

The cons - nothing will work.

458467 2006-05-28 10:22:00 Nope, the old version is still there as usual with Java, I will un-install it with add/remove programs quite soon. The new version is smaller than the old one by 32M. Have checked the operation by going to the Java based ClearNet Tools billing period and all seems fine.

This is a demanding page, and the link is here:

www.clear.net.nz

Click on the "Dial-Up Internet Usage Meter - Billing Period" to access the Java based page.

458468 2006-05-28 10:31:00 Ah ok .

Most sites say to uninstall the previous version .

Before u install the latest version .

Because, even tho you install the latest version, (and if the previous version has a security flaw / vulnerability), and its still installed, you'll get hit by it .

458469 2006-05-28 11:56:00 Yes but it gave me no option to do that and didn't do it itself as always. I have un-installed the old version about half hour ago no problems so far.

I have always done it this way.
