459900 2006-06-02 03:06:00 Advice sought!
I would like to purchase a laptop to run MS Office and Dreamweaver software . I would also like to burn CD's and DVD's, use internet, download photos from my camera and all the usual standard functions .

I am looking at a Toshiba Satellite M100/F00 Notebook .

Can anyone advise if this is about right or way over/under what I should be looking for? Any general advice? I am a bit of a novice and any feedback greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you

459903 2006-06-02 04:05:00 I suppose you want to use the laptop as desktop-replacement-machine - since the heavy configuration of the laptop mentioned is more likely to be power-hungry one?

Cheers :)

459904 2006-06-02 04:23:00 I think you could do better than that. Try a specialised dealer - I noticed QMB had some great laptop deals recently, particularly their Asus brands in the same price range. Greg (193)
459905 2006-06-02 04:44:00 Correct. I don't have a desk top machine, I would like the portability of a laptop though.
I am wondering if the latop I have given specs for is more powerful than what I really need??

Thanks for your post

459906 2006-06-02 06:28:00 It depends on what you are going to use it for. However, Intel's Core Solo processors are low end so if anything I would suggest considering a system with a Core Duo chip in it, especially if you see yourself doing multimedia related tasks. What is your budget? I'd recommend a MacBook Pro (or at least a MacBook) if you can afford one. :) maccrazy (6741)

Intel's Core Solo processors are low end
Are these two statements contradictory ?

459908 2006-06-02 10:38:00 It looks mid-low end to me. I wouln't expect it to be too power hungry.

Those specs are probably about right if the most resource hungry program you will be running is dreamweaver - you have a bit of spare power for when dreamweaver becomes even more bloated. You might want to get a bigger screen, and make sure you're not paying extra for the "integrated biometrics" - it's not that great a feature.

459909 2006-06-02 12:14:00 well first off steer clear of intel, proc. to weak. make sure u get a good enough motherboard that can keep up with the times.. and i recomend getting a toshiba dvd drive at 7200rpm. hmm i can go on and on.. just depends how much money ur willing to spend and what ur wanting inside.. native (10487)
