459894 2006-06-02 03:00:00 Got this new toy, TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532M came with my notebook computer. Bought some Verbatim DVDRs to try out - works OK but I do notice that the write speed is only 8X. This writer is supposed to be 24x and the Verbatim DVDR is 16x as printed on it.

Why am I only getting 8x write speed?

Cheers

459895 2006-06-02 03:10:00 The 24x maybe for CDR or CDRW. (Most probably CDR).

Not DVD+ or -. Or any DVD's.

The 8x maybe related to DVD's not CD's.

And if the burner only supports 8x burning to DVD. And u get 16x blanks, it'll still burn to DVD at 8x.

Does it say 24x for DVD, or 24x for CDR's/CDRW's??

459896 2006-06-02 03:22:00 I used Nero's Info Tool and it says it's 24x DVD write speed. bk T (215)
459897 2006-06-02 03:34:00 I would say the 24x is for CDR not DVD .

I wouldnt count on Infotool, I would check the box, the burner came in, or go to the manufacturer of the burner .

Infotool here, it says 40x for the highest speed .

I know this isnt for burning to DVD . Its the highest speed when u burn to CDR .

The burner I've got here is only 16x to DVD . I cant say I've seen a burner that burns to DVD at 24x yet .

459898 2006-06-06 00:30:00 After doing a little searching i've found that the TS-L532M only supports 8x DVD+/- burning, so the results you're getting a accurate.

Here's the specs: 8x DVD-R, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 4x DVD-RW, 2.4x DVD+R-DL, 24x CD-R, 10x CD-RW, 8x DVD-ROM (read)

As far as I know, 16x DVD burning is the maximum, as is 52x for CD's. Spin the disks any faster and they tend to wreck your drive when they break :)

459899 2006-06-06 02:22:00 There is no such thing as a 24x DVD writer (at least not readily avaliable to consumers) 16x is the fastest. The cheaper ones, and the ones they give away will be 8x as it is older technology and they are trying to get rid of them. 16x is the normal speed these days that you would expect a dvd writer to be. rogerp (6864)
