2006-06-01 11:25:00 Yo I have partitioned my hard drive and reinstaled win xp.the problem I am having is getting rid of the old xp which is full of crap.I go my computer r/clik c drive(which is were my old one is)go format it warns me that I will lose all,I go ok but then it refuses Any thoughts will be appreciated .terry. nzace (6057)
2006-06-01 11:45:00 A better idea would have been to partition your drive (as you have done), put all needed data on this partition (my docs, music, video files etc), then rebooted and formatted C:\ and reinstalled Windows on the C:\ partition Myth (110)
2006-06-01 12:15:00 Go into Start/Programs/Accessories and bring up the Command Prompt type in C: then at the next prompt type in DIR and at the next prompt type in format C: and a message should come like are you sure you want to format C: all data well be lost contine Y/N type Y if you want to continue.

2006-06-01 22:39:00 I will show my ignorance here, but

If you have installed Xp again on another partition (say D:\), is this new partition set as active, or has the new NT bootloader been installed on the C:\ and is then booting you to D:\, probably way off the mark

2006-06-01 23:12:00 The reason you are having issues is that XP will not allow you to format the system drive while Windows is running. No exceptions. The way to do this is to boot from your XP disk, then choose the partition you wish to install to. Once you have selected the partition, you will be presented with a list of formatting options. Choose 'NTFS (Quick) unless you have disk errors. If you also run Linux (dual-boot) you may find Fat32 a better option. Erayd (23)
