459610 2006-06-01 01:04:00 Error Message:

"You need to install the latest version of Windows Media Player so you can enjoy a great range of audio and video broadband contents"

When I click the Link to install "the latest version" of Windows Media Player, it brings me to a Version 11 Beta page. I don't want to install a Beta media player.

And, I have already got my Windows Media Player version 10 installed and it is working fine.

OS: Win XP Pro with latest updates
browser: Firefox 1.5.0.3

What is happenning ?

Cheers

459611 2006-06-01 01:25:00 And whats telling u this? Firefox, a site you're going to, or WMP itself??

If its a site, it might need something that WMP 11 has, that WMP 10 doesnt have or something.

Doesnt sound like an error, its more like a message to tell u to upgrade WMP.

WMP 11 isnt too bad actually. Its got some features in it, that WMP 10 doesnt have.

What exactly are you trying to view, to see this message?

459612 2006-06-01 02:46:00 You could try turning off 'check for updates' in WMP.

The WMP11 beta is I believe pretty much stable final version to go with Vista. Also note that WMP11 beta requires XP SP2... so hopefully that is included in your 'latest updates'.

459613 2006-06-01 03:09:00 Thanks guys.

I'm trying to view some video contents from Xtra home page using Firefox as my browser.

Internet Explorer works OK to view those video contents from the same site, though.

So, I reckon it's Fire Fox that's giving the problem? But I have another machine running XP Pro SP2 with same ver of Fire Fox works fine in viewing the same contents.

Maybe, it's the OS - this machine is running Windows XP Media Centre Edition. Could it be that the Media Centre is blocking Windows Media Centre to load? If so, how do I unblock it?

459614 2006-06-01 04:48:00 bkT, I have had this problem, after extensive research via Google I am now prepared to assert that this is the problem:

support.microsoft.com

Type "about:plugins" into your Firefox brower address window, scroll down and see if it is installed, you can't miss it, a big DRM makes it obvious, also check and see if it is on the one that is working. If it is not you can uninstall it from the faulty unit according to the link above. If you find that the one that is not working has the hotfix and the one that is does not have it then I would appreciate if you let me know via this thread.

If you have removed the hotfix or CCleaner has then post back and I will attempt to tell you how to remove them later on tonight, I am out for tea until 20.00 tonight.

I believe that this is MS making sure that the WMP no longer works well in Firefox and Netscape browsers, I am sure you can work out why they would want this to happen! May be too paranoid, but I don't think so.

459615 2006-06-01 04:54:00 These are the offending .dll's:

Npdrmv2.dll or Npdrmv.dll
Npwmsdrm.dll

If you try to delete them they are just replaced again, but there is a way to do it.

I see an evil little face in my last post, haha, should be:

"about: plugins" without the space after the colon and the speech marks.

zqwerty, I don't quite follow your suggestions above. Have type in the about plugin but could not find any of DRM in the list. Apparently, no Windows Media Plugin is installed in Firefox. What shall I do next?

459617 2006-06-01 05:48:00 This seems a useful site if there are problems with WMP in Firefox:

459618 2006-06-01 05:50:00 Then what I have said does not apply in your case. Check again, I can't tell you exactly what the plugins wording are like because they are no longer on my system, haha, but those dll's are mentioned. Do a search using ctrl F on the "about: plugins" page. zqwerty (97)

Thanks, Terry. Problem resolved.
