459387 2006-05-31 08:18:00 Hi Team

With the onset of University demands on data downloads, my 1GB cap on full-speed jetstream with Xtra is under serious threat.

The solution seems to be to open up another broadband account with limited speed & more generous data cap.

As I see it, this will entail a second router on a separate line but routers are cheap and we have a second phone line so that's not an issue.

What is the cheapest provider at present with about a 5-10GB cap. Speed is immaterial so long as it is better than dial-up! Cost is everything.

Cheers

I Hope you are well?

imo, another easy way is just have a 2nd router (so you don’t stuff up your full speed one) & just connect the 2nd router to your first phone line & do that way, also I don’t think You wont be able to run your Full speed connection & your other 2nd connection on two separate lines, but you could give it a try & let us know how you get on :)

A lot of people here have been recommending ihug – www . ihug . co . nz so you may what to check them out also you may want to check out these two sites: . ispfind . co . nz/ & http://www . internetchoice . co . nz/" target="_blank">www . ispfind . co . nz/ & http: To compare what plans ISP’s offer

i've noticed now like..towards the end of the month when people are using the their cap..internet is faster and have longer speeds for most of the day

..1st of june tommorw..hope won't get major slow downs ..like at the begining of may

i guess you can first try to find those isp still offering 256k and hope that they have it for cheaper
had a look around and many isps only offering 2 or 3.5mb plans now

Even 256K would be ok, thought I would like to think that 1M+ would be available some of the time .

I won't be the one using it, and I want it to be completely independent of my account so that I get the full GB available for my needs . I can live easily inside that cap .

Cheapest will be best for this situation, regardless of provider, and buying an extra router plus a few filters is no big issue .

Cheers

459391 2006-05-31 11:34:00 Billy, this site (http://www.internetchoice.co.nz/) may be of some help in narrowing things down a bit. The link was posted on the forum last week by, I assume, the owner of the site. FoxyMX (5)

459395 2006-05-31 13:19:00 Thanks Stu, and Susan. It looks like Inspire will have the best plan for me at $30 per month and no tolls tag or anything else.

I was alright until last month when I suddenly ran well over and couldn't work out why, and this month has 17 days left out of 27 already. Turns out No.1 son has been streaming audio for Jazz studies, while daughter has been listening to classical from the Uni server for her studies.

I don't know what Xtra charge per MB over the 1GB cap and I'm afraid to ask because I'll bet it is heaps and is bound to be more than $30 per month if this keeps up.

I wonder how streaming audio sounds on dial-up? ;)

Cheers
