459498 2006-06-01 07:46:00 What's with Linux? I don't get it. MTLance (6768)
459499 2006-06-01 07:53:00 Thats quite correct, if you have linux you don't get it (the virus plague, that is).

Currently viruses do not affect Linux.

459500 2006-06-01 07:55:00 you mean viruses are built to attack Windows, Macintosh and etc.? MTLance (6768)

I've used Nortons (pile of fetid crap), PCcillin (not bad), Avast, AVG and a couple of others briefly. My AV of choice is NOD32, which you won't find in too many reviews but my real life experiences suggest it's the best one I've used.

Oh, I also use linux, on which I have Clam AV enabled so I don't pass any nasties on to Windows machines, never found anything though, I guess the environment is a bit demanding for the blighters.

lol, viruses almost exclusively attack windows based systems. this could be due to its negative image as being a pain in the ass (not undeserved, either), possibly the majority of virus writers use or are familiar with windows not mac/linux. personally, perhaps they think mac/linux users suffer enough already ;)

I use avast free, and on my other pc avg paid-for-version. i find avast better, although the default skin seems a bit silly (looks like a mp3 player).

i find norton plain stupid, a MAJOR resource hog, and not free whilst being equally effective as free avast/avg. i installed norton on a 133mhz pc running win98 with 64mb ram for a joke. the poor 133 became practically useless, AND went faster after uninstalling than BEFORE i installed norton lol

and why the poll without any options? "others" is at 40% right now lol

(and my other computer is running linux (knoppix))

459503 2006-06-01 09:26:00 Old Nortons might be plain. But I'm saying about New Norton. If you think it's plain please check you the 2006 version not 2005.
Norton have improved McAfee too. There's lots of options for Norton but hidden.
But used Windows for years, oh well, might get Vista next year.

459505 2006-06-01 10:29:00 Have used AVG for a number of years and recommended it to my son who unhappily had problems with its interface with some other program(s). Therefore recommended Avast to him and he is running that with no problems.

I am very seriously thinking of buying Nod32 because with the number of nasties out there things could get tougher ! Your hard disk will eventually fail so why court other problems as well.
