| 459406 | 2006-05-31 19:50:00 | USB modems. 2 main problems with them. often they are basicly a winmodem ie driver based the pc's cpu dos all the work. software can have all sorts of problems, from overwritten dll to a simple app which hoggs the cpu therefore the cpu staops running your modem and your download stops. the other thing is simply USB being USB. sometimes it wants to do its own thing and breaks the connection between pc and modem. eg turn off USB to save power when system is idle .....when your half way trough a download ! MAybe I should go buy a real modem then! I set a download of office 07 going last night and I see it only got to 65%before it froze, had to reboot this morning before I could even disconnect form the net, it also hangs on the "windows is shutting down screen" Thanks for the help Mik |
