| 460141 | 2006-06-03 03:50:00 | I recently bought an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ Thoroughbred CPU to upgrade. This was done on the assumption that my Gigabyte Mobo has FSB settings at 100 & 133 as per advice that if I set that up at 133, the CPU will run at 266 FSB. However, it didn't work that way. Now the Mobo is set back to its default 100FSB. The PC is running OK most of the time but sometimes, the Monitor will show a balck screen with a message like 'display settings incorrect'. If I restart the PC, then it is all right. Could someone tell me which Mobo I should now have with 266 FSB to get the CPU run at its right speed & efficiency. Or is it a sensible option to go to spend more for the sake of this CPU. What do I do about he occasional breakdown of my Monitor. I checked a few Mobo specs & even at Gigabyte site. However, I got more confused. Thanks guys. |

| 460144 | 2006-06-06 10:08:00 | you have to tell me name of motherboard or chipset that your motherboard has. It is completely normal to get 266 FSB when you set your FSB to 133mhz in your bios. Thoroughbred is DDR which means FSB gets doubled up in motherboard chipset. (Not exactly but i will put it that way) check your motherboard chipset. I suggest your motherboard chipset only supports FSB 100Mhz when you change it to 133Mhz you are actually overclocking the mainboard chipset. If it supports FSB of 133Mhz, I'd have to say check the Memory Configuration or if nothing wrong with memory configuration.. Well.. your CPU is broken can not take its original FSB Hope it helped |
