I use Norton GOBack to restore the whole system and recently downloaded files will be deleted as it was never present once you've use GOBack. At least it is better than Windows one.
Hi. Is this a value judgement - based on what. I used GOBACK for years prior to upgrading to XP. I find XP's Restore perfect and have used it on numerous occasions where I have created system changes which I no longer require. |

both have there uses. downside with windows restore is it can break programs/system and also leave virus etc (which could be the cause of the problem) on the pc. goback works ok but of course reverts everything back so you lose emails etc. |

This is why you keep all your downloaded files etc on another partition, not the one your potentially corrupted Operating System is on. |
