| 460190 | 2006-06-03 21:42:00 | At work we had to re-install the OS on a PC. We then set up the TCP/IP the way it was with the static IP, subnet, and Gateway all the same as before. Now when the machine starts it returns a message along the lines the the IP address is used elsewhere on the network (only about 6 in use), but you can clear the message and everything works fine. Tried changing the IP to about 10 different addresses but still get the same message. As we just returned the setup to the way it was before can someone tell me why this has happened and what can be done (productivity is not changed :) but it is annoying.) tks George |

The re-install could have created another NIC entry . I had an error like this with a USB wireless NIC . There were two installed and both had the same address it seems . I deleted the duplicate from the registry and the problem went away . Try enabling View/Show hidden devices in Device Manager . Anything 'funny' show here? (Device manager in safe mode is often instructive, too) . If there is a duplicate, try uninstalling it . If the above doesn't show any duplicate, I would uninstall the NIC, shut the machine down, remove the NIC and restart . Then shut the machine down, re-install the NIC and restart with a new dvr install . May not work but gives something to eliminate . Good luck . |
