i hoe that link works. ZA is dropping support for 9x just like many others. running a firewall, AV and antispyware is getting harder for 9x users.

460907 2006-06-06 04:17:00 It probably doesn't matter too much, at least while we can still get old versions of software. Newer versions of firewalls (and other stuff too) seem to be mainly bloatware, or have features not really needed in a pure firewall.

I still use Kerio 2.1.5 because it is neat and small :)

460908 2006-06-06 04:29:00 yes and no. fortunatly firewalls don't go out of date as fast as AV does. however someone makes a new kind of attack or a way around them which the old vers will not protect against. however 9x is becoming less of a target. tweak'e (69)
460909 2006-06-06 04:43:00 Apologies for the hijack sideways, but this is half-on-topic...

Trying to set up a brand-new comp running WinXP home for my sister (who knows nothing as yet except how to email at the office), I've downloaded Free Zone Alarm to replace the Windows firewall.

Wanting to do this in stages, so that she could watch & learn, I paused after the download. (Took more than 40 minutes on Dialup, but it did finish) Somehow the actual installation/setup.exe has disappeared on me... and as her XPHome displays differntly from my older version, I can't find it.

I could fiddle for ages - or I could ask you bright guys...
Please - where should I be looking?

460910 2006-06-06 04:57:00 search for zlssetup.

also it would pay to turn off "hide known file types" and "hide system files" etc (standard sicurity precaution).
