2006-06-05 22:20:00 | Not sure if channel is the right word. Something like #php or #apache. Is that called channel? Room? Anyway, I want to set one up. How can I go about it?

2006-06-05 22:43:00 | On most IRC servers just joining the channel will create it - e.g. /join #apache will create the #apache channel. | Erayd (23) | |
2006-06-06 00:04:00 | Oh really? So basically, if I told some people to join #idontexist, then when the first person goes there, #idontexist will be created, and anyone who joins after that will be able to talk to each other? Neato. Thanks.

2006-06-06 00:05:00 | It depends on the network as to whether they will let you create random new channels. Generally though, you can do as Bletch suggests. I would check with that networks website to see if there's any information. Usually if there's no one in the channel it's removed again.

2006-06-06 01:07:00 | You should also be aware that the first user to join #idontexist will have admin/mod rights for that channel. | Erayd (23) | |
2006-06-06 02:31:00 | Right, so it would be better to be able to set up a 'permanent' channel with me as admin. Thanks for your help. | mejobloggs (264) | |
