460601 2006-06-05 07:11:00 Hi Team

I have transferred an account/invoicing format from Works spreadsheet to Excel and I can't get Excel to play nicely in the monetary column. In Works I could set it as text and type any monetary values I wanted in there, prefixed with a $ sign, and with spaces if necessary to keep everything tidy and lined up.

*@$&^% Excel insists on reverting to monetary format the moment I enter a $ sign, which is frustrating me no end. I have tried highlighting the entire column and formatting it as either General or Text (to no avail) and I have also tried entering a number on each line as a "placeholder" before formatting but Excel spits the dummy on that too.

Is there another format option hidden somewhere that I have missed, or is this the way it has to be?

Cheers

460602 2006-06-05 07:48:00 Try entering the "value" as '$27.98
*assuming the text value was $27.98

Note the ' leading the entry, it will not be displayed but forces a text format to the field.

Thanks for the advice, you're a life saver!

Cheers
