| 460579 | 2006-06-05 06:31:00 | I'm trying to update the bios on my Abit IT7-Max2 v2.0 mobo because I suspect that the older version i'm currently running is giving me grief in regards to installing a new 250gb hdd. I've downloaded the latest bios version from the abit website along with the award flashing utility, and have put them onto a floppy disk formatted as a system disk. So far so good, I've done everything as specified in the mobo manual/abit website. However, after booting up with the floppy and running the correct file (the "runme" batch file), the flashing program initialises, but when it gets to the business of "Programming flash memory" it just freezes, with no progress showing up on the little coloured graph and no activity from the computer itself. Underneath the progress meter it has a warning telling me not to power off/ reset system, but it's not doing anything. What am I supposed to do? |

| 460580 | 2006-06-05 06:52:00 | Try pressing ctrl c. See if it goes back to a prompt. Then see if typing in the info here (www.abit-usa.com) flashes it properly. |

| 460581 | 2006-06-05 06:57:00 | No joy with ctrl-c I need to reset the pc to try the manual method of flashing (putting in the switches myself), but I don't wanna screw the bios up. The program is showing 0% completed (no blocks filled in) so will it be ok to reset? Also, the runme batch file does use those same switches with the awdflash executable, it just shows a more user friendly interface first, with warnings/ "would you like to continue" etc. |

| 460583 | 2006-06-06 05:37:00 | Yes I was. Who knows what it's problem was. I ended up just reseting the comp and it booted fine so I guess I got lucky. I was able to flash the bios properly using ABIT's windows based flashing utility (FlashMenu I think?), which someone on the ABIT USA forums recommended. I couldn't find it on the ABIT NZ/AUS website, so just got it from the US one. I know that flashing the bios in dos is highly recommended over using windows based flashers, but this worked fine for me. Go figure. |
