2006-06-05 05:18:00 | When finished Installing Ubuntu what's the user and pass? I don't get it, I mean I type the computer host name and password and it didn't work. And I don't want to reinstall the dam Ubuntu because it takes forever.:( | MTLance (6768) | |
2006-06-05 05:55:00 | hostname will not be your username When you installed ubuntu you should have created a user account. If not try logging in as root.

2006-06-05 06:11:00 | User Documentation (wiki.ubuntu.com). Please read. :) Your username and password are the ones you entered during installation.

2006-06-05 06:18:00 | I know the passord, but there's no user name being created except creating password. It says use sudo but nothing happened. Can't even access Ubuntu at all.

2006-06-05 06:26:00 | Your username is the name of the account you log on with. You only need to use it if prompted for it when the login window appears. If you are asked for your password to perform admin functions in Ubuntu, then you just put in your password. If you are running a admin task from the command line, then you use the sudo [command]. After hitting enter, it will ask for your password. eg: $sudo fdisk -l [enter] Enter your password: WARNING: With admin (root) powers and Linux, you can do anything. It will not give you any nice Window like prompts eg "Are you sure", "Please confirm", "This is a system file" and stop you deleting it etc. You can very easily hose your entire system from entering in a wrong command or not fully understanding what you are doing.

2006-06-05 06:45:00 | What should I type in here? (img125.imageshack.us) This is my first time running Linux. | MTLance (6768) | |
2006-06-05 06:51:00 | Your image is way too small to read. If it says username etc above the text entry box, then you put in your username. You created one when you were installing Ubuntu. If it says Password, then put in your password in. You don't use sudo. | Jen (38) | |
2006-06-05 06:56:00 | Below the Ubuntu it says user name, sorry this is taken by digital camera. And when you starting to talk about installing Ubuntu create you own user name but I saw nothing there except create host name as ubuntu and create password that's all. | MTLance (6768) | |
