461282 2006-06-07 01:25:00 If u browsed the same website, one with a 3.5Mbps connection and one with a 7Mbps connection, would the 2 connections use the same amount of data usage or will the 7Mbps connection use more as it will be accessing the webpage faster? lance4k (4644)
461283 2006-06-07 01:35:00 The two connections would use exactly the same amount of data. The page loads faster because that data reaches your computer faster (although for most web pages the difference between 3.5MBits/sec and 7MBits/sec isn't that great). Erayd (23)
461284 2006-06-07 01:43:00 but its like driving fast. you do the same km's but you can get into trouble faster ;) LOL tweak'e (69)
461285 2006-06-07 01:49:00 some people say if you use higher speed you end up using more data can be misleading i guess
if you acess the exact same stuff, you will use the same data as stated above

but what people are concered is that because it loads faster
the user end up using more

eg.
oh..this video stream.. i don't have to wait as long for it to load now so i'll check it out

and say if you were on 56kbps just to be extreme, maybe you wouldn't even be visiting sites that provide video streaming

so you end up accessing more stuff than before which leads to more data being used

461286 2006-06-07 01:50:00 but its like driving fast.Except that driving faster uses more fuel. Browsing faster doesn't use more bandwidth. Greg (193)
461287 2006-06-07 01:56:00 good point heni72847, like driving the more power you have the more you tend to use it ! browsing faster is like driving faster....it costs more to save time.

with active content in a lot of web pages you can download them before you can stop them, so in that respect you will chew through more data. exspecially with malware, it can download before you can get off the page. IE dosn't make it easy as it downloads first, asks second :( (and redownload next time you go to that page even tho you said "no")

But I disagree. Sure you are more likely to download some big demo or watch video clips peole have posted in threads here for instance if you have broadband rather than dial up.

But an increase form say 2Mbps to 3.5mbps doesn't make me want to download any more stuff than before.

461289 2006-06-07 10:28:00 ooh pctek i whish i had your selfcontrol

Its not self control. What is there to get? I don't download music, I don't download games, I do get the odd demo now and then but not many.
That leaves drivers and stuff and just viewing webpages.
Most I ever used was 8Gb, its usually 3Gb.
