| 461275 | 2006-06-06 23:38:00 | hey people, wondering if you guys could give me advice on which graphics card to get: 1) how much extra is it worth paying for a powercolour x800 gto 16, over a 6600gt, considering ive only got a sempron 3100+ ocd to 2 . 2 ghz, 1gb ram? 2) i was mainly wondering would the cpu be a bottleneck with the x800 and therefore render it pointless (as x800 gto 16 is quite high end compared to sempron right)? thankyou oh wise ones . . . |

| 461276 | 2006-06-06 23:53:00 | For gaming the importance is in this order: Graphics card Amount of RAM System bus speed CPU The X800 is a lot better. As to price - I dunno, you'll have to decide that. Your CPU is fine, its not a major. Make sure you have 1Gb of ram as well - that matters more. |

Not quite, cpu have to feed the gpu data, so i would say cpu cpu ram bus speed |

| 461279 | 2006-06-07 02:57:00 | i assume this is for gaming? frankly it depends on the game a lot. some games really need the biggest cpu you run and what sort of graphics you run. ie for some online gaming they turn off all the fancy graphics to make it run better online so the video card in fact dosn't actually do a lot. what i would suggest is go run a few bench marks and compare it to other systems. don't forget you need to run them at the same settings/res etc. if your favorite game has built in benchmark then you can test by running that and then compare it to when you overclock the video card. if the overclocking dosn't increase performance then its unlikly a faster card will do any improvments. |

CPU doesn't matter too much - considering his setup and what he is likely to be playing with it. We aren't talking about the latest FEAR or Crysis stuff are we? GPU RAM Bus speed - only because I've compared a certain game on 2 identical systems, one had DDR400 and the other DDR266 but all else was the same, CPU, MB, card, brand of ram. The 266 system was slightly less able to cope with the game. |

| 461281 | 2006-06-07 09:40:00 | k, thanks people, tweak e, thats a good idea, cheers... ps. just a quicky; some guy said he ocd his sempron 2800 to 2.4ghz! im guessing by upping the voltage...if my bios voltage wont go higher than the stock of 1.45, is that because of my motherboard, or powersupply?? |
